Year 8 Play and fun

Engaging educational exercises for 8-year-olds

Even though your child is likely now reading independently and in new ways, in addition to honing important arithmetic abilities like their times tables, playing various language and math games is still quite beneficial.

The majority of kids enjoy playing, and it's a simple method to aid in their education. Here are some enjoyable and simple activities you can perform to support your child's growth in spelling, writing, math, and reading comprehension—and they won't even realize it!

Games and other activities

1. Word puzzles

To increase vocabulary, play alphabet games such as "The Philosopher's Cat is... a fiery cat, a beautiful cat," and so on.

Play around with puzzles, come up with your own, and uncover new interpretations for the same word.

Create your own renditions of well-known rhymes to aid in your child's acquisition of word patterns.

2. Card games

Play Junior Trivial Pursuit to enhance general knowledge while requiring a lot of reading.

Engage your kids in games like Cluedo, where they have to use their deductive skills to figure out a route or solve a mystery. There are also a ton of internet variations.

Mastermind and other code-cracking games are great for teaching your kids to reason.

3. Video games

Playing games that train the brain can help you build a variety of skills that are beneficial for writing and reading.

Look for online games that crack codes.

There are many commercially available adventure games that need strategic thinking and conversation to win. Consider Roomscape.

4. Turn it into a game

To help your child learn to organize and manage their own schedule, have them make and maintain a journal or calendar.

Involve your kids in party planning. They can offer ideas for a theme, invitees, food, invites, and more.

A creative idea to organize and write notes is to set up a pin board or magnetic board in your child's bedroom to hold messages, postcards, certificates, reminders, and other mementos.
