More sleep is needed for one-year-old babies than most people assume.

A one-year-old requires 11 to 14 hours of sleep each day, most of which should be obtained at night.

Babies who are 12 to 18 months old normally sleep for no more than three hours during the day—one brief nap in the morning and one lengthier nap in the afternoon.

Babies will begin to switch to one longer afternoon nap at the age of 18 months.

For a one-year-old, bedtime should ideally be about 6:30 p.m. and no later than 7 p.m.

But keep in mind that infants are wonderfully different and haven't read the manual, so you shouldn't be too angry if your child has different ideas about when to sleep and nap.
