Your Baby's Development at 11 Weeks

The Development of Your Infant at 11 Weeks

The infant is approximately 2 inches (5 cm) long at 11 weeks.

Every organ in the newborn was developed in the embryonic period. The organ systems of the unborn child will now develop and grow during the fetal stage.

Face and Head

Approximately half of the baby's body length is made up of their enormous head.

This week, the baby's eyelids close and fuse together; after week 24, they separate and take on their final form.

Taste buds are maturing.

The baby's face is starting to resemble a human face as the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears develop more.

Physical Modifications

The baby's limbs are growing longer and more angular.

There is no webbing and the fingers and toes are longer.

The baby's reproductive organs are starting to take shape, but the ultrasound doesn't reveal the baby's gender yet.

Motion

With an ultrasound, the earliest indications of breathing movements can be seen.

Though you cannot feel it yet, little arms and legs are moving within the womb.
