Week 4
Your Baby's Development at 4 Weeks
Your baby is still growing inside the lining of your womb at 4 weeks. In the interim:
Your blood supply is connected to your outer cells.
- Inner cells create two, then three layers:
- Inner layer: Develops into the stomach and breathing systems.
- Middle layer: Develops into the muscles, bones, blood vessels, and heart.
- Outer layer: Develops into the skin, nails, brain, nervous system, and eye lenses.
The yolk sac serves as the embryo's source of nutrition until the placenta takes over.
About you after four weeks:
- Usually, conception happens two weeks following your last menstrual cycle.
- The symptoms might not be apparent just yet.
- Missed menstruation or other symptoms like breast discomfort could be the first indication.
- Test for pregnancy to confirm it.
Determine the due date, keeping in mind that it could alter following an ultrasound.
Spots of Implantation
You can have mild vaginal spotting or light bleeding during the period when your baby is implanting or burrowing into your uterus. It might be your first indication that you are pregnant, even if you might confuse it for a lighter-than-normal menstrual flow. However, don't panic if you don't experience or detect implantation spotting—not everyone will.
